WE STAND IN SOLIDARITY ! WE STAND BESIDE THE PEOPLE OF PALESTINE, SUDAN, CONGO AND ALL OTHER OPPRESSED NATIONS FACING GENOCIDES, FORCED FAMINES, IMPERIALISM, COLONIZATION AND BRUTALITY.
Who are we ?
We are The Sea Drop Magazine, an indie, student-run, and general-interest magazine dedicated for celebrating cultures, histories, traditions, arts, societies and people's stories worldwide. Founded by Ifaz Ali Khan, writer and independent researcher - this magazine aims to unite the world through the refined lenses of cultural and social understanding. This magazine intends to shed light on culture, history, people, society, folklore, arts and others from around the globe, fostering curiosity, knowledge and respect. At first, the magazine only aimed to focus on East Asia, Turkic World and South Asia, however later it was decided to include spaces for all other countries and continents.
We also decided to introduce an art section for contributors who are artists in painting, sketch and drawing. This was done under the 'The Nice Initiative', a project taken by our magazine to promote artistic works and foster creativity.
From the founder and chief editor Ifaz Ali Khan himself : "The inspiration for this magazine came from my own interest in Japanology, Sinology, and Turkology. I had been researching their cultures, arts and societies for a while now. At one point, I decided to open my own independent small internet-based magazine dedicated for covering these topics and welcoming different perspectives. We are starting small, but one day, I hope to make this magazine go big - maybe one day, we can have our own print version too, who knows ! Regardless, I am excited about this magazine.
Regarding the inspiration behind this name : it came from a very unlikely place, or should I say, a person. It came from a favorite junior Turkish sister of mine, whom I respectfully and adorably call Meryem Abla. She is a young artist, who paints extremely beautifully - which often reflects Turkish culture, art, society and history. Her creative endeavors, cultural knowledge and artistic passion, coupled with her charismatic name Meryem (which means "a drop in the sea") gave me the idea for naming this magazine 'The Sea Drop Mag'. This magazine is also like a drop in the vast sea of knowledge about global cultures and societies.
Meanwhile, 'The Nice Initiative' project under this magazine is named after Ahanaf Nice, one of my favorite junior cousin sisters out there. Yah, Nice is her real name by the way. She is also quite an artistic and creative person, ambitious to learn more. The magazine's very own nature is ambitious, like hers, to explore and learn more. To let others explore and learn."
